A good life coach helps you identify your core values, picture your dream life congruent with these values, set goals to strive towards in making your dream a reality, and break your goals down into small achievable steps that you can take to work towards achieving them. It’s about working out what will make you most happy and fulfilled in life, developing a plan to help you get there, and supporting you along the way.

A Life Coach can help you find the path to success and happiness.

Having a coach is like having a friend who is always really honest with you and on your side no matter what. They can help you celebrate your successes and motivate you when the going gets tough so you don’t give up. They also help you identify and resolve blind spots, emotional barriers and other issues that get in the way of your personal happiness which you mightn’t otherwise recognize.

You might think that a good friend could do everything for you that a life coach can, and that would be true if your friends are all positive, encouraging, success-oriented and don’t let their personal agenda get in the way of supporting you. Friends often lack the objectivity to tell us what we really need to hear, and few of them are trained in coaching people to be successful.

The most important thing is finding a competent coach who you can relate to, that also identifies with your goals and values. I studied both traditional counselling/therapy and Life Coaching, so I combine the best of both worlds when [intlink id=”1511″ type=”page”]working with my clients via Skype[/intlink].

Advantages:

  • Less rigid and broader than most forms of therapy

  • Focuses on future successes, rather than past failures

  • Personal problems become surprisingly unimportant when the rest of our life is working

  • Avoid getting bogged down over why you hate your parents/partner/life

  • Increasingly popular

Disadvantages:

  • Not really a substitute for therapy, if that’s what you really need

  • Many coaches lack formal accreditation

  • Some coaches have minimal or no training

  • Coach may be ill equipped to deal with serious problems, like depression and mental illness

  • Degree of effectiveness varies widely from coach to coach

Personal development can help you clarify personal goals and create pathways to move towards these goals with a spirit of enthusiasm and determination.

Happiness is an integral part of personal development. As long as you are happy you have a better mindset of your personal goals in life.
